Capability 01 / 06 / Fabricate and install

Industrial pipework fabrication and installation.

Spool fabrication and site installation of process pipework in carbon and stainless steel, small bore up to large diameter, on live plants and new builds.

Pipework fabrication and installation

Most process pipework is two jobs. The spools are fabricated to drawings, in the shop or on site, and then run in to line and level around whatever else is on the plant. KBVI does both with the same crew, so the fabrication is made for the site it is going into and the installation is done by the people who made it.

On Discovery Park in Kent, a new build 27.8MW biomass power station, KBVI prefabricated to drawings, site ran the rest, and stayed two years to work nearly every pipeline in the plant: ammonia, demin water, cooling water, steam, oil, hydraulic and the argon fire suppressant lines. That is the pattern on every job, from a single clarifier pump run to a whole plant.

How the job runs.

  1. Survey and set out

Read the drawings, walk the site, plan access and set out the runs before anything is cut.

  2. Fabricate

Spools fabricated in carbon or stainless, small bore to large diameter, ready to drop in.

  3. Install

Runs installed to line and level on live sites, working around the other trades, not through them.

  4. Weld and prove

Welded, checked and proven so the plant can be signed off.

  5. Handover

Snag, mark up and hand the system over clean, with the pipework in and proven.

Straight answers.

What buyers ask about pipework fabrication and installation.

Do you fabricate off site or on site?

Both. Spools are made to drawings where it makes sense, and the rest is run on site. On Discovery Park KBVI prefabricated to drawings and site ran the remainder over two years on the plant.

What sizes do you work in?

Small bore up to large diameter, in carbon and stainless steel. The BOS clarifier job at British Steel was 3 inch and 2.5 inch carbon steel schedule 40 pump pipework; the power station packages ran the full range.

Can you work around a running plant?

Regularly. Much of the work is on live sites, fitted in alongside whoever else is there. On refits KBVI strips out and refits existing plant while the site keeps operating.

What do you need to price a job?

The scope in a sentence or a drawing, the site and when access opens, the programme you are working to, and anything already fabricated or on order. Email the office and the reply comes from the people who price the job and stand on the site.

Send the drawings.

One email and the pipework starts moving. Your job gets priced by the crew that welds it and stands on the site from first spool to final test.
